Issues
PUI Valiotech addresses a critical need to strengthen innovation and technology transfer in Réunion, an island region with specific economic and environmental challenges. The project works on several fronts: building closer ties between laboratories and companies, supporting innovative projects, encouraging the creation of start-ups, and strengthening skills through training. It targets students, companies, researchers and support services to build a culture of innovation and to foster the development of solutions tailored to local challenges, thereby contributing to a more dynamic regional ecosystem. The goal is to significantly increase the number of research partnerships, operating agreements and start-up launches.
Description
The project is structured around four key areas:
- Training: Developing entrepreneurship training modules for a wide range of audiences, including awareness sessions for undergraduate students, business-student meetings for master’s students, summer schools for postgraduates, masterclasses for researchers, and short courses with certification for professionals.
- Research partnerships: Providing comprehensive services to build closer ties between companies and research laboratories, by deploying new tools, enhancing the appeal of partnership schemes, and optimising technical platforms.
- New start-ups and financing: Coordinating tailored support for students, postgraduates, researchers and project leaders, with the aim of increasing the number of applications submitted to incubators and support services, thereby strengthening existing mechanisms for the creation and long-term viability of innovative start-ups.
- Coordination and governance: Establishing effective strategic and operational steering, with transparent communication between founding members, including the creation of a Living Lab dedicated to the social and solidarity economy.
Our objectives
- Accelerating R&D projects in advanced technologies;
- Facilitating the transition from the lab to the market;
- Consolidating higher education with programmes on entrepreneurship;
- Connecting public and private stakeholders around innovative projects.
Expected results
Among the expected results, PUI Valiotech aims to transform collaborative practices between research laboratories and companies. The ValioLink call for projects (the first edition of which was launched in February 2025) reflects this ambition. The initiative seeks to catalyse partnerships by supporting collaborative public-private projects where scientific expertise translates into tangible innovations for the economic fabric.
The project also aims to foster a “cultural” shift. Special attention will be given to promoting scientific research and familiarising students with entrepreneurship. Researchers will be guided and supported to move beyond traditional academic frameworks and to explore opportunities for technology transfer. Meanwhile, companies will be encouraged to integrate research findings more fully into their development strategies.
These changes are designed to strengthen and stimulate practices that already exist within the local ecosystem, by facilitating smoother exchanges and stronger synergies between innovation stakeholders. PUI Valiotech thus seeks to amplify local initiatives and to open up new opportunities for collaboration between research and the business world.
In terms of skills, PUI Valiotech focuses on targeted training programmes for different audiences. Students, postgraduates and professionals will benefit from initiatives dedicated to entrepreneurship and the management of innovative projects. These training programmes will help to create a pool of local talent capable of addressing the specific challenges of the region while supporting the growth ambitions of companies.
