PPR diagnosis by immunocapture

Veterinary product Animal production and health
The antigen detection test enables rapid screening for peste des petits ruminants directly in the field. It provides an initial level of information to confirm suspected PPR cases in livestock.

Our support for veterinary services

In the event of a PPR outbreak, laboratories and veterinarians must contact local health authorities. Upon request, our experts can provide support and :

  • offer recommendations to contain the spread of the disease;
  • advise on appropriate diagnostic tools and vaccines depending on the context.

We also provide specialised professional training open to students and veterinarians: diagnostic techniques for peste des petits ruminants.

The research team
The ASTRE Research Unit brings together around one hundred staff members and is a reference laboratory of the World Organisation for Animal Health for the following diseases: peste des petits ruminants, Rift Valley fever, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, contagious caprinepPleuropneumonia, heartwater and rinderpest. It is also the European Union and FAO reference laboratory for PPR.
The unit’s scientific experts provide support to diagnostic laboratories worldwide and confirm diagnoses carried out by national and regional laboratories. The unit also mobilises epidemiology experts to support veterinary services in partner countries during disease emergence and contributes to the global eradication programme through coordination and participation in numerous research projects.
